Idea File pt 2

I went for a walk this week and took 10 photos that give examples on the elements of design. Here is my analysis of them.

Flow- The curves of this tree lead your eye in a way that is easy to focus on the big knot in the middle of it. The direction of the knot facing right also pulls your eye across the page, giving it flow.

Harmony- The limbs growing out from this tree have been so excessive that some of them have even needed to be trimmed down. This is repetition in its natural form.

Emphasis- This trimmed trunk is creating a big impact in this photo. Not only is it centered in frame and unique in color, it brings emphasis to the destruction that has been done.

Contrast-The shadow in this photo shows an extreme value difference to the bright green grass in the early morning sun.

Balance-Rule of Thirds- When I took a photo of this drain pipe I tried to get the bright opening of it in the upper third of the frame to accentuate the rusty pipe on the bottom. (I wasn't entirely successful, I did crop it a little.)

Emphasis- I took this photo of a passing cloud. It was right at the perfect angle above me where I could capture the sun without a glare. The emphasis in this photo is the singular bright dot in the center of the frame.

Harmony- The harmony in this photo is being represented by the repetition of color. The color of the apple in the puddle and the color of this freshly fallen leaf share green hues throughout them, bringing a harmony to the two subjects.

Balance- Formal Symmetry- While this photo isn't perfectly symmetrical I thought it would be enough to display formal symmetry. This century plant in the middle with a bush on either side brings balance to the photo.

Contrast- The contrast in the photo comes from multiple sources. The shadow being cast on the puddle creates a drastic difference in brightness to the sun on the rest of the puddle. There is also contrast in the multiple sources of only green color.

Balance and Flow- Rule of Thirds- I used the rule of thirds and waited until the right time to catch this little robin in just the right position. It's in the top left third of the photo creating balance. The direction the bird is facing towards the bottom right of the photo gives it good flow.
